If you saw the Battle on the Bridge this year, you may have been upset by the choice of words that Jack the Jester used when introducing our returning drumming trio, Rhythm Maker.
In response to some comments, Jack the Jester has released the following statement:
To All concerned and The Clun Green Man Committee,
I would like to write to apologise for comments which have caused offence and some unpleasant debate. I was approached by two ladies after the bridge event yesterday who said they found a couple of my comments as offensive and racist. I in public spoke to them and took their feelings very seriously. I unreservedly apologised for causing any offence, that is not my reason or intention. I also went further to say that if those comments caused offence I would not use them again.
I stand by those responses and am very sorry if my comments have offended anyone or stirred up animosity.
I also spoke to the musician who was the subject of the comments at the next opportunity to ask if he felt offended in any way and if so that I was sorry as that was not my intention. His response was that he was in no way offended and we were good friends. In addition after the event he sent me a message to say thank you for a fantastic day and to say it was a great atmosphere. So I am certain that he himself was not offended.
In addition I would add that I do not hold any such feelings or beliefs that reflect the criticism that has obviously offended people. Nor do I have any feelings of superiority to any race.
I can only say to anyone that has been offended that I am sorry for being the cause of that feeling as that is the direct opposite of the intention and atmosphere of inclusivity which I have tried to bring to the event.
Sincerely:
Nick Moulton
Alias Jester Jack Green.
The Clun Green Man Festival Committee hopes that this response is well received, as it has been by ourselves, and will further discuss the impact that this matter has on our festival at our next meeting, and at the AGM (time and date TBC) where the public is welcome to attend.
We, the Committee, would like to state that we reserve no prejudice of any kind, and will continue to do our best in producing an inclusive and welcoming festival each and every year.
